Apa Perbedaan “House” dan “Home”?

Apakah anda termasuk salah seorang yang bingung dalam membedakan kata “House” dan “ Home”? 

Tenang, anda tidak sendirian karena dahulu saya juga sering dibingungkan oleh dua kata tersebut (House dan Home). Pada awalnya saya kira tidak ada perbedaan antara HOME dan HOUSE, ternyata kedua kata ini berbeda.

Dalam kamus bahasa Inggris – Indonesia maupun Indonesia - English, kata “House” dan “ Home” memiliki terjemahan yang sama, yaitu Rumah. Lalu apa yang membedakan kedua kata tersebut? Nah, TheEnglishCamp akan memberikan solusinya. Menurut Rahwanda (2009):

House

Adalah bangunan yang ditinggali atau dihuni dan disebut “Rumah”. Rumah terdiri dari ruang tamu, dapur, kamar, atap, pintu, teras, dll. Jadi, House digunakan jika hal yang dimaksudkan adalah rumah yang sebenarnya (dan ada bangunan dalambentuk  fisik).

Home

Home merupakan penjelasan sebuah tempat dimana kita merasa nyaman jika berada disana meskipun itu bukan sebuah rumah (Bangunan fisik). Seperti halnya Tarzan yang mengatakan “hutan” sebagai rumahnya (Jungle is Tarzan’s Home), walaupun disana tidak ada bangunan berbentuk rumah. dan jika anda sedang jalan-jalan keluar negeri, maka anda bisa mengatakan Indonesia is my home, walaupun “rumah” anda berada di provinsi Riau. (Home dapat berbentuk taman, perkumpulan, koloni, daerah, dll).

Kesimpulan:

House: Rumah yang sebenarnya (dan ada bangunan dalambentuk  fisik).

-his house is big.

Home: Adalah suasana disebuah tempat yang dapat membuat kita nyaman, ini dapat berbentuk  taman, perkumpulan, koloni, rumah, kampung halaman, dll.

- I want to go home.

Neither: Tak satupun dari …

Nah langsung saja ini beberapa cara Penggunaan “Either” dan “Neither” :

1. EITHER

A. Choice of 2 possibilities

Either … Or

- Either you tell me now or I’ll ask him directly.

- We can bring either wine or beer to the party.

- Either Dad or Mom will call you, OK?

Either + [one] of + [group of two]

- Either of us can do it. It’s easy.

- Ok, so we can bring either of them to the party.

- Either one of them will call you.

B. Rejection of 2 possibilities

Not … Either … Or

- I don’t think either Dad or Mom can call you.

- I don’t speak either Italian or Spanish.

- He doesn’t eat either fish or meat.

C. Agreement after negative statements

Not … Either

- I don’t like football and He doesn’t either.

- She didn’t go out last night and I didn’t either.

- They won’t help you and I won’t either.

2. NEITHER

A. Rejection of 2 possibilities

Neither … Nor

- Sorry but neither Dad nor Mom will call you.

- In the end, they brought neither wine nor beer.

- She speaks neither Italian nor Spanish.

Neither + [one] of [group of two]

- Neither of us has money.

- Neither one of them can call you.

- Neither one of us is ready to go out.

B. Agreement after negative statements

Neither

- I don’t speak Italian. > Me neither

- I don’t like football and neither he.

- I don’t want anything to  eat. > neither do I

- They won’t help you and neither will I.

C. As a determiner

Neither

- Neither team scored a goal. it was 0 - 0.

- Neither day last weekend was nice.

Tips Penggunaan "Hear" dan "Listen"

Kali ini TEC akan memberikan TIPS Penggunaan HEAR LISTEN kepada TEC Buddies, serta bagaimana cara membedakannya.

1. HEAR

A sound/noise comes into your ear without you making an effort.

Suara-suara yang datang ke telinga kita tanpa ada usaha untuk mendengarnya / tanpa disengaja.

Examples of using “Hear”:

“Did you hear that noise?”

“I can’t hear anything because of the loud music.”

“Have you heard the news about Sam?”

“Yes, I heard about it last night.”

“I didn’t heard what you said, sorry.”

“I’ve Heard that song before.”

“Speak Louder please, I can’t Hear you.”

2. LISTEN

When you pay attention and try to listen to sounds.

Kata listen digunakan ketika kita “berusaha” mendengar suara / pembicaraan orang lain maupun sebagai kata kerja (verb) untuk menyuruh seseorang mendengarkan.

Examples of using “Listen”:

“Are you listening to me?”

“No, I wasn’t listening, sorry.”

“Please, listen to me.”

“I love listening to music in my room.”

“Sam is listening to Erica right now.”

“Listen! I can hear a baby crying.”

“Listen the question and answer it!”

Untuk lebih mudah membedakan antara kata “Hear” dan “Listen”, TEC akan memberikan tips nya:

Hear: Mendengar

Listen: Mendengarkan / Dengarkan

“Did you hear that noise?”

- Apakah kamu mendengar suara itu?

 “I love listening to music in my room.”

- Saya suka mendengarkan musik di kamar.

“I can’t hear anything because of the loud music.”

- Saya tidak dapat mendengar apapun karena suara musik yang berisik.

“Listen the question and answer it!”

- Dengarkan pertanyaannya dan jawablah!
